B Prothero & Co design metalwork that perfectly compliments your period of property or makes a bold statement. We work with closely with clients to measure, discuss ideas, look at materials and finishes as well as lead times and budgets. We produce bespoke sketches and designs and will also work to architectural drawings and specifications.

The fully equipped workshop means that we can use a wide variety of tools and processes to gain the effect needed, everything we produce is handmade and constructed in the workshop before being delivered or installed on site.

Our main priority is making sure all installed metalwork is 100% safe and secure as well as looking the part.

We install safely and efficiently

We always endeavour to install metalwork with minimum disruption. We will liase with stonemasons, carpenters and builders to make sure that gate posts, beams, walls and ground surfaces are strong enough to hold the metalwork. The fixings we use will vary and may need to be specially made.

We use or recommend finishes that look good and stay looking good for a long time and will advise on aftercare.
We recommend that most exterior steelwork should be galvanized, primed and painted or powder coated.

For structural and engineered steelwork, we can work from a qualified engineer's drawings to produce engineered steels. We can help building companies with the installation of steel work. We are experienced in  manoeuvring heavy structures and beams.

We like 'authentic'

All replica ironwork is made 'as new', keeping as close to the original as possible. We use techniques that reflect the age of the original, consulting with conservators where required. We can source special metals, castings, paints or finishes. For restoration work, we will assess what needs replacing and what needs repairing, keeping as much as the original as is safe to do so.

We take great care in making quality metalwork and aim to keep clients informed on the progress of commissions to check they are happy with developments at all stages.
